Water Celery, Oenanthe Javanica, Edible Pond Plant, Grow Food in Tiny Spaces
Easy edible pond or bog plant – grow food in tiny spaces!
20 in stock
Water celery is a fast-growing edible pond plant, suitable for growing food in tiny spaces. Can be grown in a pond, kiddie pool, or a tub, but please keep away from natural watercourses! The taste is celery-carrot parsley-like and the whole plant can be eaten including the roots.
This herb is perennial and gives you an abundance of celery-like leaves in a very short time. It is hardy in Katoomba, although it will look a bit untidy during the cold season. In very cold climates, you can overwinter a small piece of the plant inside.
Could be used as a fast-growing groundcover for wet areas. Water celery can reach up to 1m, but mine only grows to about 30 cm, I guess it prefers warmer climates, but it is still incredibly productive here. In herbal medicine, this pond plant is used as a depurative, febrifuge and styptic.
The flowers are tiny, white and insignificant.
Bog plant for marginal areas. Can be grown in sun or shade
