Pizza, pasta. lasagne, moussaka, nearly every Mediterranean dish calls for oregano. Fresh is best - cheaper than bying all the time a bunch is growing your own.
Oregano dies nearly down in winter here but reemerges without a problem in spring. Of course it needs sun and good drainage. It tolerates poor soil.
Oregano is healthy too, it has long been recognized as one of the "functional foods" for its nutritional, anti-oxidants and disease preventing properties. Oregano is a rich natural source of vitamin K, an important vitamin that is often overlooked.
It has a beneficial effect upon the digestive and respiratory systems and is also used to promote menstruation and thus it should not be used medicinally by pregnant women though culinary doses are perfectly safe. It was used colds, influenza, mild feverish illnesses, indigestion, stomach upsets and painful menstruation. It is strongly sedative and mild teas aid restful sleep.
